Trauma

Have you experienced a traumatic life event that has turned your world upside down to the point in which you, nor your friends and family, recognize who you are? Sometimes, traumatic experiences can leave you feeling a deep sense of loss. You may feel like you've lost your sense of self and the world seems to shift and turn, leaving you feeling isolated and heavy with uncertainty. It may help you to know that trauma research suggests we are a resilient species! This means there is hope for you to break free from the pain and live a fulfilling life again. We can work together in a space that is safe and at your pace. I use exposure-based and narrative techniques to help you find strength and healing.

Mindfulness

"Where attention goes, neural firing flows, and neural connections grow"
Dr. Dan Siegel

Why do we wrestle with our thoughts and emotions? Or feel like we have to fix a problem right away? This only leaves us feeling completely exhausted and stressed! Our relationships suffer. We start to feel alone and judged. We even experience physical annoyances such as tension headaches and high blood pressure. What if we stopped doing and instead work towards being...that is, being fully present in the moment. Mindfulness teaches us how to increase our awareness and open ourselves up in ways of finding peace and contentment. Simple, right? It absolutely is! Studies have shown that mindfulness techniques such as meditation result in happier and more contented individuals. I like to incorporate mindfulness in our time together through relaxation skills, meditation, guided visualizations and more. You'll be amazed at how much the brain can change for the better with a simple 1-minute meditation practice!

My Approach
Fees and Insurance

What is your fee?

My fee is $275 for a fifty-minute session.

I use Square to collect payment and put your credit or debit card on file so payment does not cut into our session time.

I offer limited sliding scale spots on a case by case basis.

Do you take insurance?

Please note that I am currently working on transitioning into a private pay practice in 2023 and will no longer take insurance some time during 2024.

If you are already working with me when I am in this transition and you are using your insurance, we can discuss continuing therapy as a private pay client and using your Out-Of-Network benefits from your insurance company. Meanwhile, you can read more about this below.

I currently participate with the following insurance carriers:

HMAA

HMSA (BCBS Hawaii)

HMSA Quest

UHA (University Health Alliance)

Kaiser Permanente Health Plan of Hawaii

Medicare

Here's how you can use OUT-OF-NETWORK benefits to reduce your out of pocket expenses:

If you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide you with a receipt called a Superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Every insurance is different so please check with your insurance company regarding reimbursement rates.

If you’d like to use out of network benefits, here are some questions you can ask your insurance company to help determine coverage they may provide:

  • Do I have out-of-network coverage for mental health (or Behavioral Health)?

  • What is my deductible and how much has already been met?

  • What is my out of pocket payment before my deductible is met?

  • What percentage of the fee for each visit will be covered?

  • How many mental health sessions per calendar year does my insurance plan cover?

  • How do I obtain reimbursement for therapy with an out-of-network provider?

  • Is approval required from my primary care physician?
